Only 12% of the Peninsula households can afford a medium priced house, in contast to 71% nationwide. Concentrated proverty with more than one-third of the residents earning self sufficiency level. Rise in crime...highest in five years. Growing carbon emissions. Rising electricity and natural gases prices. Stormwater pollutions. Eighty percent of the stormwater pollution entering San Francisco Bay, largly the result from auto maintenace, construction, trash and hazardous waste dumping and pest control. Increase in asthma rates. Obesity is on the rise with 55.3% of residents over weight. Inequitable health insurance coverage: Hispanic and people of low income people are less likely to have health insurance coverage. Hight cost of child care and wide discrepancies in child abuse rates by ethnicity.
