Letter to the Editor
On September 11, 2001 the Bay Area lost one of it's finest
anti-Eco-terrorist warriors. Alan Beaven , former Chief Legal Counsel for the non-profit Half Moon Bay Coastside Foundation aka Save Our Bay died on United Airline Flight 93 scheduled from Newark N.J. to San Francisco.
Those of us that knew and loved Alan, know that he did not go quietly into the valley of darkness. Alan's love of life, family and community required him to do what he has always done….the right thing. He stood up and
confronted the hijacking terrorist and prevented them from destroying the "people's house". Alan Beaven died as he lived, a honorable warriors death and was not a victim of evil.
Alan Beaven believed
that change is inevitable…survival was not. His fearless passion was the protection of the Bay Areas drinking water quality and our watershed natural systems. He was instrumental in the formation of the SOB Foundation's and
the California Watershed Posse (CWP). His last successful lawsuit on behalf of the Water Quality Protection Program (WQPP) was against the owners of the infamous Coastside historic Johnston Ranch illegal landfill that
continues to pollute the steel head stream Arroyo Leon and it's adjoining wetlands. The California Watershed Posse will become Alan's gift and living legacy to all Bay Area communities.
On behalf of a grateful nation Alan,
thank you! May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hands.
